Chance is a gentle soul who arrived with some past trauma and has been slowly learning that the world can be a safe and loving place. He takes time to warm up to new people, but once he does, he is truly the sweetest boy. While he’s timid with humans at first, he absolutely adores other dogs. Having a canine companion helps him feel more confident and adjust to new situations more easily.

He’s still figuring out what toys are (they’re a little suspicious in his opinion!), but he’s recently begun playing with the four resident dogs—and even the cat. People holding toys, however, are still a bit scary for him, so he’s learning at his own pace.

Chance came to us as an adult, so building trust and learning basic skills has taken time, but he’s making steady progress. He prefers a quieter approach to life and often hangs back to observe. His crate is his safe space, and he likes having access to it whenever he needs a moment to relax. Once he feels brave, he’ll sneak over for gentle scratches and might even offer an adorably awkward snuggle.

Chance will thrive with a patient family who understands that trust is earned slowly. A confident, friendly dog in the home would be ideal to help guide him. Though he gets along well with other dogs, he’s still a bit scared of the big world, so he’ll need gradual introductions to new places and experiences before he feels ready to explore beyond the house. Chance has had an esophagus injury, so its recommended to use a harness rather than a collar.
