Saskatoon Dog Rescue Teams up with Remote Community to Take in 42 Dogs

April 4, 2023

Saskatoon, SK - 42 dogs arrived in Saskatoon late Sunday evening after being rescued from a remote community in Northern Saskatchewan.

Saskatoon Dog Rescue (SDR) has a long-standing relationship with the community and works closely with its residents to reduce dog overpopulation. During their most recent visit, SDR offered a vaccine clinic, donated dewormer, and provided dog food to residents. The rescue also offers a spay/neuter and return program, where residents without access to veterinary care can opt to have their dog fixed and returned home.

“These communities do not have access to the financial and veterinary resources that we do. They are constantly struggling with dog overpopulation issues, and we feel it’s important to help. By participating in these initiatives, we are not only helping dogs, but we’re making the community safer for these residents” said SDR President Courtney Fisher.

All 42 dogs will be seen by veterinarians at City Park Veterinary Services or VCA Canada All West Animal Hospital, SDR’s two partnered vet clinics. Each dog is screened medically and behaviourally before being made available for adoption.
